Joseph Broschak
Associate Professor

Dr. Joseph Broschak is an Associate Professor of Management and Organizations at the University of Arizona, Eller College of Management. He holds an undergraduate degree in Petroleum Engineering from Penn State University, an MBA from the Duke University, Fuqua School of Business, and a Ph.D. in Management from the University of Texas at Austin, McCombs School of Business. Prior to his academic career, Broschak spent nine years in various capacities as a project drilling engineer for Shell Oil Co.
Broschak’s research focuses on employment relationships and the management of relationships between organizations. His current work combines interests in mobility in professional and managerial labor markets, nonstandard work arrangements and labor market intermediaries, the demographic composition of organizations, and the formation and dissolution of market relationships between firms,. His research has been published in leading academic journals such as Administrative Science Quarterly, the Academy of Management Journal, and the American Sociological Review, and as chapters in books including Relational Wealth: The Advantages of Stability in a Changing Economy, Research on Managing Groups and Teams, and Research in the Sociology of Organizations.
Broschak currently serves on the editorial boards of Administrative Science Quarterly, Organization Science, and the Journal of Managerial Issues. At the University of Arizona, he teaches classes on organizational design and strategic human resource management. Prior to joining the University of Arizona, Broschak served on the faculty of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he taught undergraduate, MBA, and EMBA classes on organizational design and human resources management, and in leadership development programs for companies such as Archer-Daniels Midland, China’s Bank of Communications, Illinois-American Water, and Carle Hospital. He is the recipient of two awards for Excellence in Graduate Teaching awarded by the College of Business and the College of Business Alumni Association at the University of Illinois.
